About the Book
In 1775, Jonathon Buffington inherits a portion of the Savage Grant, 27,000 acres of frontier land originally awarded to Captain John Savage and his soldiers following the French and Indian War. Jonathon leaves Pennsylvania to stake his claim along the Kanawha River and Leading Creek, carrying a survey map bearing the signature of George Washington.
He travels west searching for something increasingly difficult to find in the colonies: peace. Instead, Jonathon discovers a beautiful but contested frontier where isolated forts protect settlers, Indigenous peoples defend lands and burial grounds, and old violence has created hatred on both sides.
Jonathon builds his cabin and prepares to bring Ann and their children into their new home, determined to create a future far removed from the wars of his past. But the frontier refuses to remain peaceful. As conflict intensifies, Jonathon’s family becomes caught in a struggle that forces him to confront the very violence he hoped to leave behind.
When his young daughter Wendy is taken, the fight becomes personal. Jonathon must venture deeper into a conflict where the line between enemy and victim is not nearly as simple as those around him would have him believe.

His U.S. Air Force career included electronic warfare and airborne systems, thousands of flight hours, and extensive experience working within complex military and aerospace environments.
